HAST displays emerged from the needs of the mobile multimedia age. Ortus Technology has independently developed this high-definition a-Si TFT. Conventional amorphous silicon TFTs reduce the aperture ratio of pixels by increasing the number of pixels, but this reduces the amount of light transmitted, so a brighter backlight is required, which in turn requires more power consumption. Also, as the resolution is increased, the contact pitch of the driver LSI narrows and other problems occur.
