ENVIRONMENT

We work to utilize resources as efficiently as possible and place a high priority on protecting the environment when manufacturing products.

We take company-wide measures to protect the environment, starting with COF2 use, a worldwide industry first.

At Ortus Technology Kochi we strive to protect the global environment and realize sustainability on a large scale for a better future. One of the leading areas in this effort was our elimination in 2005 of the use of nitrogen trifluoride (NF3), a CVD chamber cleaning gas used in the manufacturing process for TFT liquid crystal displays. We switched to the use of carbonyl fluoride (COF2), which generates very low greenhouse gas emissions. It is the first time ever for a mass fabrication plant to use this as a cleaning gas.
We also recycle the valuable substances and industrial waste generated from intermediate processes, reusing them in construction materials or preservative agents, for example, to eliminate waste.
In this way we are able to reduce industrial waste throughout the company. We also train employees to save energy and resources, at the same time working to improve our systems. In 2003 we achieved zero emissions targets for waste and in 2006 earned the Ozone Layer Protection and Global Warming Prevention Excellence Jury's Special Award (from the NK Industrial Research Institute).

Wastewater is treated to the cleanliness level of tap water.

How to effectively utilize limited water resources is an important issue at Ortus Technology Kochi. Although the company is blessed with an abundant source of water, we consciously avoid wasteful use. We direct many efforts toward reducing the amount of industrial water that is used and toward minimizing the impact of effluent on the environment.
One of these efforts is to treat wastewater until it is clean enough to be used as tap water before releasing it into the local river system. We are also committed to continuing to improve our systems and working to protect nature and preserve resources for the future.
